United States Opens New Student Advising Center in Khulna
The Khulna EducationUSA Advising Center will provide no-cost advising and information about study opportunities in the United States. More than 8,200 Bangladeshi students studied in the United States in the 2018/2019 academic year, an all-time high for Bangladesh.
DHAKA, November 25, 2019 – In celebration of International Education Week (IEW), U.S. Embassy Dhaka opened a new EducationUSA (EdUSA) Student Advising Center at its American Corner in Khulna on the campus of Northern University of Business and Technology on November 25. The new EdUSA Center will be staffed by a full-time EdUSA Adviser and offer group information sessions and individual counseling services for students and parents at no-cost from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday to Thursday.
Adding a new EdUSA Center and a fulltime EdUSA Adviser will expand U.S.-Bangladeshi educational linkages in the important education hub of Khulna, with its many prestigious educational institutions, including some STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)-focused tertiary institutions.
Promoting educational exchanges between Bangladesh and the United States is a strategic priority for U.S. Embassy Dhaka. International education exchanges benefit both our nations and peoples, boosting intellectual and cross-cultural capital as well as business and professional networks, and helping prepare students to enter the global job markets and solve the world’s toughest challenges.
The number of students from Bangladesh studying in the United States increased to 8,249 during the most recent academic year (2018/2019), according to the 2019 Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange. This is an all-time high for Bangladesh, reflecting a 10% increase over the 2018 report and more than tripling the number of Bangladeshi students studying in the United States since 2009. Bangladesh now ranks in the top 20 countries of origin for international students in the United States and is the only country in the top 25 list to have a double-digit increase since the 2018 report, the highest in the South Asia region. Of the 8,249 Bangladeshi students studying in the United States, 5,278 study at the graduate level; a 13.5% increase over 2017/2018 academic year.
EducationUSA is the official office of the U.S. Department of State for information about studying in the USA with a global network of over 400 advising centers. In Bangladesh, EducationUSA’s mission is to facilitate free access to information about study opportunities in the United States. Advising services and reference materials are available at locations across the country, including at the American Center at U.S. Embassy Dhaka, the Edward M. Kennedy Center for Public Service and the Arts located in Dhanmondi, the American Corner in Chittagong, and the American Corner in Khulna, where trained advisers lead group information sessions and provide individual counseling services for students and parents at no-cost. EducationUSA reference libraries and remote advising are accessible at American Corners in Sylhet and Rajshahi.

খুলনায় চালু হওয়া এডুকেশনইউএসএর পরামর্শ কেন্দ্র যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে পড়াশোনার সুযোগ বিষয়ে বিনামূল্যে পরামর্শ ও তথ্য সরবরাহ করবে। প্রসঙ্গত, ২০১৮/২০১৯ শিক্ষাবর্ষে ৮২০০ জনের বেশি বাংলাদেশি শিক্ষার্থী যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে পড়াশোনা করে যা কিনা এযাবতকালের মধ্যে সর্বোচ্চ।
ঢাকা, নভেম্বর ২৫, ২০১৯ – ইন্টারন্যাশনাল এডুকেশন উইক (আইইডব্লিউ) উদযাপন উপলক্ষে ঢাকার যুক্তরাষ্ট্র দূতাবাস ২৫ নভেম্বর খুলনার আমেরিকান কর্নারে নতুন একটি এডুকেশনইউএসএ (এডইউএসএ) শিক্ষার্থী পরামর্শ কেন্দ্র সেন্টার চালু করেছে। নর্দার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটি অব বিজনেস অ্যান্ড টেকনোলজি ক্যাম্পাসে স্থাপন করা হয়েছে এটি।
নতুন এডইউএসএ পরামর্শ কেন্দ্রটিতে একজন পূর্ণকালীন পরামর্শক থাকবেন। এখানে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে শিক্ষার সুযোগ বিষয়ে বিনামূল্যে গ্রুপভিত্তিক আলোচনা হবে। এছাড়া শিক্ষার্থী ও তাদের অভিভাবকদের ব্যক্তিগতভাবে পরামর্শ দেওয়া হবে। শনিবার থেকে বৃহস্পতিবার সকাল ৯টা থেকে বিকেল ৫টা পর্যন্ত দেওয়া হবে এ সেবা।
নতুন একটি এডইউএসএ কেন্দ্র স্থাপন ও পূর্ণকালীন পরামর্শক নিয়োগ গুরুত্বপূর্ণ শিক্ষা অঞ্চল খুলনায় যুক্তরাষ্ট্র ও বাংলাদেশের মধ্যকার শিক্ষা সংযোগকে সম্প্রসারিত করবে। খুলনায় রয়েছে কিছু এসটিইএম (বিজ্ঞান, প্রযুক্তি, প্রকৌশলবিদ্যা ও গণিত) বিষয়ের উচ্চশিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানসহ অনেকগুলো নামী শিক্ষায়তন।
বাংলাদেশ ও যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের মধ্যে শিক্ষা বিষয়ক বিনিময় এগিয়ে নেওয়া ঢাকার যুক্তরাষ্ট্র দূতাবাসের অন্যতম কৌশলগত অগ্রাধিকার। আন্তর্জাতিক শিক্ষা বিনিময় উভয় দেশ ও জনগণকে উপকৃত করে। এটি বুদ্ধিবৃত্তিক ও আন্তঃসাংস্কৃতিক সম্পদ বৃদ্ধির পাশাপাশি বাণিজ্যিক ও পেশাগত যোগাযোগ বাড়ায়। এছাড়া শিক্ষার্থীদের আন্তর্জাতিক চাকরির বাজারে প্রবেশ করা আর আজকের সবচেয়ে কঠিন চ্যালেঞ্জগুলোর সমাধানের জন্য তৈরি হতে সাহায্য করে।
যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে পড়াশোনা করা বাংলাদেশি শিক্ষার্থীর সংখ্যা সাম্প্রতিকতম শিক্ষাবর্ষে (২০১৮/২০১৯) ৮,২৪৯-এ উঠেছে। তথ্যটি ইন্টারন্যাশনাল এডুকেশন এক্সচেঞ্জ বিষয়ক ২০১৯ সালের ‘ওপেন ডোরস’ রিপোর্টের। যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে অধ্যয়নরত বাংলাদেশি শিক্ষার্থীর এ হার সর্বকালের সর্বোচ্চ। এতে দেখা যাচ্ছে, ২০১৮ সালের রিপোর্টের তুলনায় বাংলাদেশি শিক্ষার্থী ১০% বৃদ্ধি পেয়েছে। আর ২০০৯ সাল থেকে তা বেড়ে হয়েছে তিনগুণের বেশি। উচ্চশিক্ষার জন্য যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে শিক্ষার্থী পাঠানো দেশগুলোর মধ্যে বাংলাদেশের অবস্থান এখন শীর্ষ ২০ এর মধ্যে। আবার বাংলাদেশই শীর্ষ ২৫ এর মধ্যে একমাত্র দেশ যাদের ২০১৮ সালের রিপোর্টের পর থেকে শিক্ষার্থীর সংখ্যায় দুই অঙ্কের প্রবৃদ্ধি ঘটেছে। এ দিক থেকে বাংলাদেশ দক্ষিণ এশিয়ায় শীর্ষে।
যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে অধ্যয়নরত মোট ৮,২৪৯ জন বাংলাদেশি শিক্ষার্থীর মধ্যে ৫,২৭৮ জন ¯œাতক পর্যায়ে পড়ছে যা ২০১৭/২০১৮ শিক্ষাবর্ষের তুলনায় ১৩.৫% বেশি।
এডুকেশনইউএসএ যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে লেখাপড়া সংক্রান্ত তথ্যের বিষয়ে পররাষ্ট্র দপ্তরের নিজস্ব কার্যালয়। বিশ্বজুড়ে বিভিন্ন দেশে রয়েছে এর চারশর বেশি পরামর্শ কেন্দ্র। বাংলাদেশে এডুকেশনইউএসএর কাজ হচ্ছে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে পড়াশোনার সুযোগ সংক্রান্ত তথ্য বিনামূল্যে সরবরাহ করা। বাংলাদেশের বিভিন্নস্থানে থাকা পরামর্শ কেন্দ্রগুলোতে প্রয়োজনীয় তথ্য ও পরামর্শ পাওয়া যায়। এই কেন্দ্রগুলো রয়েছে ঢাকায় যুক্তরাষ্ট্র দূতাবাসের আমেরিকান সেন্টার, ধানমন্ডির এডওয়ার্ড এম কেনেডি সেন্টার ফর পাবলিক সার্ভিস অ্যান্ড দি আর্টস এবং চট্টগ্রাম ও খুলনার আমেরিকান কর্নারে। এসব কেন্দ্রে প্রশিক্ষিত পরামর্শকেরা বিনামূল্যে গ্রুপভিত্তিক আলোচনা করেন এবং শিক্ষার্থী ও অভিভাবকদের ব্যক্তিগতভাবে কাউন্সেলিং করেন। এছাড়া সিলেট ও রাজশাহীর আমেরিকান কর্নারে এডুকেশনইউএসএ রেফারেন্স লাইব্রেরি এবং দূর পরামর্শ সুবিধা পাওয়া যায়।
