United States and Bangladesh Build Student-Police Relationships in Bangladesh

U.S. Embassy’s Department of Defense and Department of Justice’s Student Leadership Development Workshop Series Aims to Enhance Student-Police Relations.

RAJSHAHI, March 12, 2021 – U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl Miller and Rajshahi Additional Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md. Sujayet Islam provided remarks to 30 students from Rajshahi University, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology, Rajshahi College, and five Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Officers during the opening ceremony of this year’s Student Leadership Development Workshop.  

Since 2016, the United States Department of Defense and Department of Justice utilized this program to enhance student-police engagements through leadership development focused on countering violent extremism, mentorship, community policing, and tolerance.   The series’ five seminars involved over 150 Rajshahi students and 25 police officers, promoting the U.S. Embassy’s whole of government effort to countering violent extremism.  Ambassador Miller applauds programs like the Student Leadership Development Workshop, which illustrate the United States and Bangladesh’s enduring commitment to building a brighter future together.
