DHAKA, February 26, 2020 – U.S. Embassy Dhaka is pleased to announce that 11 U.S. colleges and universities from across the United States including top ranked universities in aviation, aerospace, and other Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM)-focused programs, will host EducationUSA Academy programs for 15- to 17-year old students from around the world this Summer. Each participating U.S. college and university has its respective deadline for submitting applications; deadlines range from March 1 to early June 2020. IMPORTANT: A couple of schools offer full and partial scholarships and awards if applicants apply by certain dates, the soonest being March 1. Make sure to review each school’s application and deadline information below carefully.
The EducationUSA Academy, a pre-college academic enrichment program for international high school students, is an effort by the United States to recruit the world’s best and brightest students to pursue future degrees in the United States. Through two- to four-week programs, EducationUSA Academy prepares 15- to 17-year old students from around the world to submit strong applications to U.S. universities through college preparatory coursework, academic English courses, writing workshops, campus visits, entrepreneurship development opportunities, industry visits, and cultural activities. The Academy creates a new pathway for international high school students who may not otherwise have considered attending university in the United States by providing them with the information and skills necessary to become successful students at U.S. higher education institutions.
The 11 host 2020 EducationUSA Academy institutions offer unique opportunities. Please refer to each institution’s website (see below) for information about its program, applicable fees, and application procedures and deadlines. For all programs, the Embassy recommends early preparation and application to allow sufficient time for visa processing if selected for a program.
The following U.S. college and university campuses will host EducationUSA Academy programs this Summer:
Syracuse University offers the ultimate American college experience for international high school students, where they can immerse themselves in the English language and culture while living on the campus of Syracuse University, one of the top 100 universities in the United States. For international students interested in pursuing a credit course, the application deadline is no later than April 1, 2020. The university encourages early application as all programs have enrollment limits and are processed on a rolling basis in the order in which they are received in full. An application is marked complete once it is submitted and all external documents are received (i.e. transcripts, recommendation letters).

This program includes college preparatory coursework, tours of diverse college and university campuses, and cross-cultural activities for students from around the world. International students can improve their English competency and become more familiar with the U.S. higher education system, academic culture, campus life, and application processes for admission to U.S. colleges and universities.

- St. Cloud State University (Minnesota)
Students in this program will be able to work alongside undergraduate STEM students in current research projects in the university’s cutting-edge facilities and laboratories. They will also be able to meet with faculty who shape research and discovery within the institution.
Application deadline: May 1, 2020; however, the university recommends that students apply as early as possible. After submitting the application, prospective students can apply for a scholarship. Students will be notified of acceptance after May 15, 2020.

UW-Madison provides an all-around college preparation experience to facilitate post-secondary success. The experience at UW–Madison will provide students with Midwest hospitality in one of the most beautiful campuses, and one of the most forward-thinking, highly-ranked universities in the country.

Participants will have an opportunity to work with recognized academic and professional experts in engineering, international business, and psychology; and be able to build communication, critical thinking, and negotiating skills by working with teams of classmates. Students will experience university life on a safe, world-ranked campus – one of the most beautiful campuses in the United States, and home to five Nobel prize winners.

Participants will experience one of the nation’s oldest public universities and the flagship campus of Tennessee’s premier land-grant institution. They will experience life and culture in Tennessee’s extraordinary natural beauty, traditional music, and distinct way of life. The program includes field trips, homestays, and cultural experiences such as trips to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the most visited National Park in the United States, and to Nashville, Tennessee, the country music capital of the world. Students will also learn the principles of starting a business and developing a business plan. Students should apply as early as possible.

Program emphasizes living with and learning from high school students from the United States and around the world on an urban campus in Philadelphia: the birthplace of the United States. Students will have the opportunity to discover American culture as they take in Philadelphia’s rich history and world-famous art collections. They will spend a day in New York City, at the beach, at Ivy League universities and other nearby locations that will immerse them in the U.S. experience.

Program is suitable for high school students interested in STEM and leadership development and interested in Boston as an education destination. Students get to visit the university’s STEM laboratories and research centers. Trips to regional STEM institutions, such as the Broad Institute of Harvard & MIT and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, will provide hands-on leadership training addressing how to use STEM solutions to create positive change.

Program’s focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math (STEAM) allows participants to explore high technology in the San Francisco Bay area through the college’s specially designed curriculum, tech company visits, and projects. Many activities and class assignments are devoted to the fascinating world of technology and innovation, inspired by nearby Silicon Valley.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is the world’s #1 university for aviation and aerospace. This program allows participants to learn through hands-on activities and field trips about careers in Engineering, Safety, Meteorology, Aviation Maintenance, Space Technology, Aviation Management, and Flight. Students who apply by March 1 will be eligible for a chance to receive a $500 scholarship.
