DHAKA, JULY 11, 2016 – U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh Marcia Bernicat, Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Nisha Biswal, and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Manpreet Anand met today with Home Minister Assaduzzaman Khan to discuss Bangladesh’s bilateral relations with the United States and the security situation. The Assistant Secretary offered her condolences for the victims of the recent terrorist attacks. “We mourn with our Bangladeshi partners and are steadfast in our commitment to this country,” said Assistant Secretary Biswal. “Our support for and cooperation with Bangladesh remains as robust as ever.”
Assistant Secretary Biswal also offered U.S. expertise in building Bangladesh’s counterterrorism capabilities. “We appreciate the ongoing efforts of Bangladeshi law enforcement to protect U.S. citizens in Bangladesh and will continue our assistance in combatting terrorism, a global threat both our countries face,” she added.
