The U.S. Embassy Dhaka arranged a two week Arson Investigation training course from April 23 to May 4, 2017 to 29 investigators from Industrial Police, Criminal Investigations Department, and the Bangladesh Fire and Civil Defense. Through its partnership with a number of U.S. local law enforcement agencies, the U.S. Dept. of Justice’s International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program (ICITAP) sponsored experts from the Portland Police Bureau to conduct the training. PPB Detectives Joseph Luiz and Michelle Michaels, themselves veterans of previous deployments to Bangladesh, delivered this very important training to a very enthusiastic group of investigators.
On Thursday, May 4, 2017, U.S. Ambassador Marcia Bernicat attended the closing ceremony as the Guest of Honor and formally spoke to the group. Also in attendance as special guests were Md. Nowsher Ali, PPM, Additional Inspector General, Industrial Police Bangladesh and Brig. General Ali Ahmed Khan, PSC, Director General, Service and Civil Defense Directorate (FSCD), Bangladesh.
This course was funded by the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of International Law Enforcement Affairs.
