DHAKA, AUGUST 29 – US Acting Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs and Acting Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Alice Wells arrives in Bangladesh for a two-day visit on August 29. While in Dhaka, the Acting Assistant Secretary’s schedule includes meetings with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, and high officials from the government of Bangladesh, including Security Advisor Major General (Retd) Tarique Siddiqui, Energy Aadvisor Dr. Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury and International Affairs Advisor Gowher Rizvi. Topics for discussion include Bangladesh’s bilateral relations with the United States, the security situation, energy and regional issues.

While in Dhaka, Ambassador Wells is scheduled to meet for roundtable discussions with business leaders and civil society representatives. Her trip also includes Colombo, where she will speak at the Indian Ocean Conference, which will bring together high-level officials from around the world to discuss peace, progress, and prosperity in the Indian Ocean Region.
